Now watch the video below: How to Operate your new Kibosh

A few Important Points!!

  • Very important step: the first thing you need to do, after your MT6000 has been installed, is to log into your Kibosh Portal > Dash > Settings > WiFi Settings… and change the 2.4G WiFi Name to be the same as your old WiFi. This way all your devices will automatically connect to the new Kibosh without anyone knowing.
    • Feel free to turn Kibosh-5G off for now, you can turn it back on if you find that you need it.
    • Don’t forget to turn off the old WiFi (log into your old WiFi router…and turn off the WiFi and Save Changes).
  • You are introducing a new gateway router into your home/office network – please be PATIENT and give all the devices time to link up to the new gateway and learn the new routes. All your devices have the old WiFi router info cached, and until these caches are cleared – either by restarting, or waiting for the cash to clear on its own – there may be intermittent slowness. See FAQ for troubleshooting.
  • Kibosh’s Internet Security happens BEFORE you start that HD movie, BEFORE the trading platform loads, BEFORE the multi-player online FPS. The only impact Kibosh can have on any of your Internet activities is to either Block | Allow access to said site / app / service – once you’re on the site it’s all about WiFi and ISP speed.
  • The Kibosh MT6000 WiFi Router is made for us by Gl-iNet model MT6000 – we make no money on the router, and from a hardware & performance perspective it’s one of the most powerful WiFi routers available today.
  • You will do everything, to include managing your Kibosh Mobile / VPN devices, from your Kibosh Portal.
  • When you make a change in your Kibosh Portal, wait 2-5 minutes for the change to be applied to the device(s), (usually under 2 min).

The MT6000 is one of the most powerful WiFi router on the market today.

There is nothing more we can do to fix weak a WiFi signal, and in these scenarios we recommend WiFi range extenders:

Netgear WiFi range extender ($40)

TP-Link WiFi range extender ($90)

These are easy to install and troubleshoot.

Mesh WiFi extender setups work fine also.

Preface:

After selling thousands of Kibosh Router's, it will work for you, it's just a WiFi router like every other, but for some homes it does not turn out to be a plug-n-play setup.

Troubleshooting Intermittent issues:

Anything 'intermittent' is solvable.

Walk through the setup guide, step by step and usually these will go away.

Intermittent means device A is does not have a good link to device B - rebooting everything including the modem/router, and the devices, usually resolves.

Note that sometimes you have to reboot a few times, especially the Kibosh <> modem/router combo.

Double check your networking, are all the Ethernet cables plugged into the correct WiFi Router/Modem ports.

If the intermittent latency persist  -schedule a live support and we'll find the issue or ship you a new MT6000.

I still see bad content

What you and I think is inappropriate for our family might not be that to another.

What we can all agree on however, is the insanity of allowing the hard core porn that lies a misspelled search term away into our lives.

That is what Kibosh removes by default so you do not even have to think about it.

But we do not deal with bikini's and such so there are still some sites that have bad content (like etsy, ebay) - these are what the Parental Controls are for.

We have a very powerful tool that will tell us exactly what is going on, and gives us the tools do do something about it.

TIP: go to test.kibosh.com to know if if Kibosh is working on this device or not.

Intermittent website not loading

It sounds like your Kibosh is not talking with your ISP equipment well - again, reboot everything experiencing issues.

You can exclude a device from Kibosh Filtering:

Log into your Kibosh HUD > Dash > Settings > Raw Internet.

Exclude the device for 30 min and see what happens.

Hardware Troubleshooting:

Did you know you can replace your ISP modem / router with your own?

First off, you will save money each month because they are charging you for the use of that modem/router (look on your bill).

Second, the modem / router is critical in a good internet setup, and your ISP probably did not rent you the best possible modem - so buy your own on NewEgg or Amazon. A newer modem will work better with the MT6000's newer technology.

If you're issues persist we'll ship you a replacement - it is possible you have a bad MT6000

WiFi Signal is not strong enough.

The Kibosh MT6000 is made for us by Gl-iNet who sell their own version of MT6000.

It's a very powerful and popular WiFi router.

There is nothing more we can do to fix weak WiFi signal, and in these scenarios we recommend simple WiFi range extenders.

Netgear WiFi range extender ($40)

TP-Link WiFi range extender ($90)

They are easy to setup and will solve your WiFi signal range issues.

There is one caveat - your Kibosh will see a range extender as one device which you will complete control and visibility over.

Still need help - schedule a live support call.

Kibosh Pro will:

  1. Block Malware infected websites
  2. Show you that a Malware site has been blocked
    • Your Kibosh Portal HUD will show that Malware has been detected & blocked
    • You can drill into the Device > Settings and go to Malware to see exactly what site was blocked
      • Most of the time it's ad tracking - look up the domain to find the source.

You do not need to take any action, Kibosh has already blocked it.

However, if you feel a particular device has a Malware infection, then you'll want to take some action.

For example, we all have devices that get Malware hits here and there for mostly ad related trackers being blocked. No big deal and in fact the ad trackers being blocked will tell you a lot about where the user has been browsing.

But let's say you have a device with a hundred malware blocks in a 24 hour period - this device most likely has a Malware infection, and if you do not address this ASAP it might spread to other devices - which your Kibosh Portal HUD will show you.

Go to the Support-Center > Malware for handling detailed instructions.

Any mobile device with Cellular Data must have the KiboshVPN installed in order to control it from your Kibosh Portal.

Otherwise it will just switch to Cellular data if WiFi get's turned off.

On a Kibosh-internet:

  1.  one cannot search for bad content because bad terms are not allowed (SafeSearch enforced)
  2. there are no bad images in image search results (SafeSearch enforced)
  3. if one tries to go directly to a bad website it's blocked (Web Filtering Engine)

The end result is that 'searching' for bad content on a Kibosh-internet is impossible, so one could only go directly to a bad website, assuming it's not blocked which is rare.

If a bad website has not been pre-detected by Kibosh, and is accessed - that website will be listed in the history of a device, and all other websites.

Go to Dash > Devices > [device] > History.

It's because of Apple Wi-Fi MAC Randomization.

You will need to disable Private WiFi on that device -

How To turn off Apple Wi-Fi MAC address randomization - On iOS and iPadOS devices, users can manually disable the feature by going to Settings > Wi-Fi, tapping the "i" icon next to the network, and toggling off "Private Address". And say Yes to the Tracking Warning.

This setting is per-device, so you'll need to repeat the process for each Apple device - or they will continue to be difficult to manage.

Kibosh Mobile is VPN-layer security that extends the internet protection and some of the parental controls to any Apple or Android device.

This is accomplished by installing a KiboshVPN on the mobile device, which you do from your Kibosh Portal > VPNs landing page.

How it works:

  1.  Assuming you've already setup your Kibosh Router...go to Dash > VPNs in your Kibosh Portal
  2. Add a new VPN ($1.95 mo.)
  3. You will now have a new VPN Slot
    • VPN Slots are perpetual in that you can rotate devices in and out, but the VPN Slot (aka license) remains.
  4. Now - log into your Kibosh Portal from the mobile device you want to install the VPN on
    • Open the new VPN Slot and Assign this mobile device
    • Choose your devices model O/S
    • Follow the prompts and viola - the KiboshVPN is installed, and this devices internet is secure
      • Note that once the KiboshVPN is installed - the internet on this device will not work unless the VPN is connected. So, the only way the user can access a raw unfiltered internet is to first Turn Off the KiboshVPN.
      • You can monitor the VPN ON / OFF status from your Kibosh Portal
  5. Once you have the KiboshVPN in place, then you can monitor this device from your Kibosh Portal and layer on Parental Controls

A high-level overview of how it works:

Not really, we recommend turning it off as it causes more trouble than it solves.

5G is supposed to be faster - maybe it is in a LAB environment, but in every day usage we've never noticed any difference.

5G's WiFi is much stronger than 2.5G...so if radiation is a concern...

5G's range is much smaller than 2.4G. This is the real issue - because what happens is that you have two WiFi networks (2.4 and 5) - when you are out of range of the 5G, which is most of the time, your device should auto-switch, but if it doesn't you'll need to manually do it.

In summary - you can turn it off without causing any problems.

Yes.

When an Internet Schedule triggers - all internet activity will stop working on the Device or Profile.

TIP: always give a 3-5 minute cushion for an Internet Schedule to take affect on the Device / Profile.

Go to Dash > Bandwidth.

Choose the device.

Pick the day.

Look at the Total bandwidth usage chart - this will tell when the Internet activity for that day.
