How to Setup Parental Controls

For Apple iOS iPhone or Tablet.

Apple has developed some nice Parental Control features that we are going to layer with the KiboshVPN for the safest and least annoying kid safe mobile experience available today.  If you do not have a KiboshVPN yet, log into your Kibosh Portal > VPNs > Add new VPN.

3 Steps to a Kid Safe Apple Device

Step 1) The KiboshVPN will ensure the Internet is Kibosh safe at all times over any connection (Carrier or WiFi). 

  • On-demand ensures the Internet will not work without KiboshVPN being connected. 
  • PIN Code ensures the KiboshVPN cannot be turned off without approval. 
  • The VPN Status Monitors online / offline status in real time, which is easily monitored in your Kibosh Portal.

Step 2) Apple’s Family Sharing > App Control will ensure nothing is installed without your approval (like Tor, or free VPNs). 

Step 3) Apple’s Family Sharing > Location Tracking.

Begin here…Parental Controls Setup

Step 1) Complete – if you’re reading this then you already have a KiboshVPN. 

Step 2 & 3) enable Family Sharing

  1. On the parents iOS device go to Settings, tap Your Name > Family > Setup
    1.  Enable Family Sharing group and then send out an invite to the kids devices (which will be in the new Family Sharing group). 
  2. On the kids device(s) go to Family Sharing > Invites > Join family
  3. On the parents device > Family Sharing section:
    1. Location Sharing > Enable
    2. Send an invitation txt msg to kids device (which needs to be accepted from the kids device)
  4. On kids device Enable Location Sharing > Share My Location
  5. On the parents device > Family Sharing > Ask to Buy > Enable
    1. Send invitation txt msg to kids device (which needs to be accepted)

That’s it! Sit back and relax because this is the best solution available to parents today – it works as advertised, it’s reliable,  and easy to use.

What to expect going forward…

  • The internet will always be family safe as long as the KiboshVPN is connected – which you can easily monitor from your Kibosh Portal
  • When the kids device wants to install an app you will get a text message asking you to say yes or no – simply tap ‘approve’ or ‘disapprove’.
  • Location tracking is done anytime from the Find My app (default iOS app).
