Question: My Vizio smart tv will not connect to the internet.
Answer: this is because newer “smart” TVs are hard-coding DNS over HTTPS (DoH), for some reason unknown us, and DoH is nothing more than an encrypted back-door tunnel to a RAW internet.
Kibosh blocks all DoH by default, along with Tor, proxies and iCloud Private Relay.
Because any device using any of these technologies will bypass all Internet Security & Parental Controls.
It’s our job to ensure they do not work – which are very expensive to deliver and yet somehow “free” – and break your Family Safe Internet or control over your Internet and the devices using it.
Solution: stop using the smart-tv’s built in apps, and use a Google stick, or Amazon or Roku.
Addendum: Alternatively, you can try manually setting the TV’s DNS to 192.168.10.1 (your Kibosh) via Menu → Network → Manual Setup to resolve basic connectivity issues, but this will not prevent DoH telemetry if encrypted DNS is enabled in the firmware (which your Kibosh will block).
