How to block YouTube

There are three modes of YouTube content that can be enforced on a per-device, or group level:

Default = raw YouTube, no filtering

Safe Mode = no comments will show on any videos

Strict Mode = only child level content allowed + no comments

TIPs:

  • Strict Mode is very effective and blocks too much for normal every-day use. If you enforce it expect complaints.
  • Note that you can also Schedule YouTube Safe/Strict Mode.
  • In our testing, Default YouTube does not contain pornography. It’s the video thumbs that give the impression there is porn to be had (i.e., clickbait).

BLOCKING YOUTUBE

Q: How do I block YouTube?

A: The actual blocking of YouTube is very difficult as you would need to block all of Google to pull it off because, once you’ve logged into any Google service, like gmail, you’ve logged into the entire ‘Google Domain’ which gives you back door access to all other Google services, like YouTube. Therefor, the best way to “block” YouTube is to enforce Strict Mode, which will block most sites. This is a easy way to pseudo block YouTube without breaking the Internet, and it is effective.
